Happy First Anniversary!!

I can't believe it has been a year since we moved here. I never, ever thought I would have the opportunity to move back to the farm. After growing up on hundreds of acres with big tractors, animals and 4H, I thought those days were over when I left for college. Ther is nothing that compares to living on the farm but the Marine Corps and a farm are not a harmonious pair.

Last year, we decided to look at a few places. I fell in love with our 14 acres although in retrospect a little more investigation might have been in order. We  lives on the creek and the river which is not good in a year when it seems we have 3 inches of rain every 2 weeks. The house is great although a little overdone with paint and stencilling. None of these things matter though because I now have a small farm of my own.

I heard people say live there a year and then make decisions. Not entirely my style although I have tossed many ideas around over the past year. We already had 3 ponies boarded at another farm. They were the first additions. Then came the cats to keep the mice out of the barn, followed by the alpacas which I just think are cute and adorable and the most odd creatures alive. I know there will be more... I'm just trying to pace myself. I've divided paddocks and seeded and fertilized and have gradious visions of rolling pastures that are always green. I've put up fence and fixed fence and still don't have it right.

The best part is I'm giving my kids a chance to live on the farm. There is no other lifestyle that compares.
